Stine Rønholt

Doctor Rønhol is Associate Professor in the LEO Foundation Center for Cutaneous Drug Delivery of the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark).

She conducts cross-disciplinary research at the interface of physical chemistry, biophysics, biology, and pharmaceutical sciences.

Her work explores barrier interactions involving biological membranes, skin, and mucus, focusing on the development and evaluation of advanced drug delivery systems (DDS) for both small and large molecule therapeutics. A key interest is understanding how barrier diseases influence drug absorption.

To investigate these complex interactions, Doctor Rønholt utilizes a multimodal platform incorporating techniques such as synchrotron X-ray and neutron scattering, rheology, advanced microscopy (cryo-SEM and TEM), thermal characterization, and in vitro/in vivo models, with current projects examining the potential of deep eutectic solvents and ionic liquids for skin barrier modulation.
